According to a 2016 HIMSS Cybersecurity Survey, healthcare providers are making cybersecurity a higher priority as patient data breaches increase. In the survey, providers note that the increased sharing of data via email, mobile devices, and the Internet of Things are points of vulnerability. Some key findings of the survey included:
87% of acute care and 81% of non-acute care organizations are making information security a higher concern.
Key barriers to information security included the lack of skilled cybersecurity personnel and the lack of financial resources.
The top cybersecurity concerns for providers in both types of healthcare organizations were phishing attacks, virus/malware, and the results of HIPAA required risk assessments.
The future threats most feared by providers included ransomware, advanced persistent threat attacks, and phishing attacks.
